Who am I?

A young native of Dallas, Texas, Chef Tahji is the first certified culinarian in her family. Her inspiration to cook began at age 12 while preparing traditional Sunday dinners with her family after church and watching The Rachel Ray "30 Minute Meals" show on Food Network. By the end of high school, she was already growing her resume in the kitchen by coming up with unique recipes of her own. Tahji also began working at Chick-Fil-A and obtained her ServSafe Food Protection Manager Certification. From that moment on, Chef Tahji knew her calling and decided to pursue an Associate of Applied Science Degree in Culinary Arts at Dallas College. While there, she began her professional career in hospitality working for two international hotel chains gaining experience as an apprentice, line cook and a banquet chef. Additionally, Chef Tahji nourished her love for cooking at a local bodega where she managed the kitchen staff and created customized culinary delights for the customers daily. Later, Chef Tahji joined SMU as the morning supervisor of the Umphrey Lee Dining Hall and is currently enjoying the privilege of ensuring students and staff receive excellent service and proper nourishment. Her dream is to one day own a food truck so she can travel & see the smiles on people’s faces once they’ve indulged in her Gourmet-Southern style food! She believes that unique food must be experienced.
